Was Jesus
Only a Prophet? Or Much More By Robin Brace
A Question I Was Asked: "My Girlfriend Works Overseas. A Follower
of a Different Religion Told Her That Acts 3:22 States That Jesus Was
Only a Prophet! How Do I Answer Her?...I Need Some Scriptures!"
It is very odd how certain religions claim
that Acts 3:22 states that Jesus was only a prophet when any consideration
of the entire New Testament makes it abundantly plain that Jesus was
- and is - much, much more than a prophet!
In fact, even the context here in Acts 3 shows
that, while Jesus is certainly a prophet, He is much much more than
that. Look at verses 20-23. In verse 20 He is called 'the Christ' (the
anointed one). Verse 21 states that Jesus is in heaven until the restoration
of all things as He (Jesus) promised long ago through His holy prophets.
Putting this all together shows that Jesus is the Anointed One and He
is currently in heaven until His involvement in the restoration of all
things (His Second Coming and the Judgment!), and His prophets foretold
this. So while Jesus certainly is a prophet, to say that He is only
a prophet is a nonsense even from these few verses. Okay, let us broaden
this out:
Jesus is omnipotent (all-powerful):Daniel 7:13-14; Matthew
28:18; John 3:31,35-36; 17:2; 1 Peter 3:22.
Jesus is omnipresent (capable of being everywhere):Matthew
18:29; Matthew 28:19,20; Ephesians 1:23
Jesus is omniscient (all knowing): John 4:17-18, 25-26, 29;
6:64; 13:11; 19:28; 21:17. He knew their
thoughts: Matthew 9:4; 12:25; 22:18 Mark 2:8; 12:15 Luke
5:22; 6:8; 9:47; 11:17 John 2:24-25;x5:42; 6:6;x16:19,x30; Acts 1:24
He knew the future: Matthew 16:21;
20:18-19; John 2:19, 21-22; 12:23-24, 32, 33
Jesus is immutable (unchanging): Hebrews 13:8
Jesus is eternal (everlasting): Isaiah 44:6; 48:12; 1 Timothy
1:17; 6,16; Hebrews 7:25; Revelation 1:4-5, 8,17; 2:8; 21:6; 22:12-13.
Pre-existent to Creation: Genesis
3:22; Proverbs 8:22-36; Isaiah 48:12, 16; Micah 5:2; John 1:1-3,10;
3:13; 6:62; 8:35,58; 17:5, 24; Romans 11:36; 1 Corinthians 8:6; Ephesians
3:9; Philippians 2:5; Colossians 1:15-19; Hebrews 1:2-4; Revelation
3:14; 13:8.
In the face of all this, to quote just one
Scripture in order to propose that 'Jesus was only a prophet' becomes
a complete nonsense!
